1. Go to The Beach: Stinson Beach is three plus miles
of sand; plenty of room for sunbathing. Lifeguards are on duty May
through October only. There is a park adjacent to the beach with
ample picnic tables and parking (on a first
come come first serve served basis)
2. Visit the Point Reyes National
Seashore: Hike on the more than 70 miles
of trails or visit the light house that sits high on a Point Reyes cliff, built
in 1870. Watch the whales at this popular location as the pass through on their
way north (January through March). More information available at
visitors centers.
3. Watch the birds: Stop anywhere along the Bolinas Lagoon,
a wildlife preserve and watch the great egrets and blue herons that nest
there each spring. It
is also a great spot to check out the harbor seals sunning
themselves. (Interfering with any of the animals is a violation of federal
law and is strictly enforced.)
4. Hike Mount Tamalpais: Enjoy the view from the ridge of this mountain overlooking
the Pacific Ocean, and the spectacular sights of San Francisco on a clear night.
There are hundreds of trails to pick from, call the Pan toll Ranger Station at
(415) 388-8070 for more information and a trail map.
5. Amble through a redwood grove: Head to Muir
Woods and spend the day
walking among the 560 acres of coastal redwoods some are more than 500 years
old.
